CanopyBloomington is working with the CBNA 

to plant new trees in our neighborhood!

If you’re interested in planting new trees on your property and/or volunteering, please fill out the “Tree Agreement” form and/or Planting Volunteer Form available at https://www.canopybloomington.org/upcoming-plantings. Canopy provides free trees!

On November 14, 2026, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, a tree-planting event will be help in the CBNA neighborhood. There also will be a chance to socialize, with food and music (further details will be announced soon).

CanopyBloomington is a social impact organization created to maximize Bloomington's tree canopy and sustainably manage Bloomington's urban forest for trees' many environmental, health, economic, and social benefits, with a focus on tree equity and community engagement. Weed Wrangle

If you’ve never tried group invasive plant removal, come over to see how much fun & educational it is. Weed Wrangles are part of Bloomington’s Adopt-a-Greenspace program, https://bloomington.in.gov/parks/parks/adopt-a-greenspace.

CBNA President Sharon Roualet is the Green-Space Sponsor of Crestmont Park. Crestmont Park is adjacent to the Crescent Bend Neighborhood and in the new Crestmont-Winslow Wildlife Canopy Corridor.

Weed Wranglers join together to take action to control invasive species in Crestmont Park.  Volunteers will be bending, hiking as needed, and using sharp tools. Gloves, tools, and safety glasses are provided.

All residents, businesses, and friends are encouraged to join in. It’s a great chance to make our neighborhood look better, chat with neighbors, and get some exercise!

We’ll meet at 10:00 at the bus shelter by Crescent Point—Lismore & 17^th St. If you arrive later, just look for us and join in. We’ll be picking up trash along our neighborhood streets, including W. 17th St, Crescent Rd., Lindbergh, Hancock, etc.

Bring your gloves and reachers/grabbers (to save your back). We’ll have plenty of blue garbage bags that the City will haul away for free. 

Metal Recycling: Between 10 to 11 on Saturday, April 11, one of our volunteers also will use his truck to pick up metal you may no longer want and will haul it for recycling--everything from aluminum siding to tin cans, iron, brass, copper wiring, metal guttering, car batteries, metal shelves, and more.  

If you have metal items to recycle: 1) Send an email with your address to crescentbend@gmail.com or call or text 812-345-1201 before 8:00 am Saturday, April 11; and 2) Leave the items near the curb in front of your house by 10:00 am that morning. If you have heavy items, please help load them into the truck. 

If it’s raining at 10:00 on Saturday, the rain date is April 18 (also for metal recycling). Send us an email if you have questions

Neighborhood Association Fall 2025 Meeting & Potluck

Our guest speaker, David Hittle, City of Bloomington Director of Planning and Transportation, will begin at 1:30. He’ll ask and answer questions about housing and transportation in the area. Bring your questions and comments for him. There also will be time for you to discuss issues in our neighborhood and to make suggestions.

Town Hall Meeting with Mayor Kerry Thomson

Mayor Thomson will hold a resident listening session in our Council District (#2). District 2 Council member, Kate Rosenbarger, and At-Large Council members, Andy Ruff and Matt Flaherty also will attend.

This is a chance to let the Mayor and City Council members know:

§  What issues are important to you

§  Your ideas about how can the City better serve the community

Crestmont Park in the Spotlight

Volunteers have been working—and continue to work--in Crestmont Park, on the south border of the Crescent Bend Neighborhood Association (CBNA) area. They’re removing invasive species, planting new trees, and making our neighborhood a better place.

Ø Sharon Roualet, President of the CBNA (yay, Sharon!), as well as the Boy Scouts of America Troop 100 both are volunteer leaders of the Adopt-a-Greenspace team for Crestmont Park. For more information on the Adopt-a-Greenspace program as well as volunteer opportunities, please see Adopt-a-Greenspace on the Parks and Recreation website.

Ø The Bloomington Arbor Tree Planting Ceremony was held at Crestmont Park on April 1, with Mayor Kerry Thomson; Tim Street, Director of Bloomington Parks and Recreation; Haskel Smith, Bloomington Urban Forester; and many others in attendance. A video of the ceremony is available on the Parks and Recreation Facebook page.

Ø Crestmont Field Day was held on May 2, 2024. Volunteers planted new trees to increase the tree canopy at Crestmont Park as part of the Winslow-Crestmont

Wildlife Corridor project.

 

Neighborhood Clean-Up Day, Saturday 5/13, 10 am to noon

Join us for the Crescent Bend Neighborhood Association Clean-up Day this Saturday. In addition to making our neighborhood look better, it’s a great chance to socialize with neighbors.

ü We’ll meet at 10:00 at the Little Library, in front of 1305 W 17th St., and then disperse to pick up trash along the streets of our neighborhood, including W. 17th St, Crescent Rd., Lindbergh, Hancock, etc.

ü Bring your gloves and reachers/grabbers (to save your back). We’ll have plenty of blue garbage bags.

After we finish, join us for a picnic and socializing at Sue Tuohy’s house, 1412 W. 17th St. (812-336-8246). We’ll have water and soft drinks, hotdogs/brats, chips and dips, some veggies, and plates, etc. Feel free to bring a dish to pass if you wish. Parking in the driveway is limited, but people also may park next door.

Metal Recycling: Between 10 to 11 on Saturday, one of our volunteers will pick up metal for recycling at JB Salvage. JBs takes everything from aluminum and tin cans to copper wiring, metal guttering, car batteries, metal shelves, and more. If you have metal items to recycle:

·      Send an email to crescentbend@gmail.com with your address before 8:00 am Saturday; and

·      Leave the items near the curb in front of your house by 10:00 am on Saturday. If you have heavy items, please help load the material into the truck.

If it’s raining at 10 on Saturday, the rain date is May 20 (also for metal recycling).

The Crescent Bend Neighborhood Association (CBNA) was organized in 2010 by a group of neighbors with the goal of making our neighborhood better. We’re volunteers who work together to:

ü  Enhance the quality of life in our neighborhood

ü  Create a unified voice for our neighborhood

ü  Identify and work with government officials and other organizations to solve problems related to traffic, infrastructure, neighborhood clean-up, security, and more

ü  Hold quarterly meetings, open to the public, to share information and concerns
